Celebrate YOU!
by Joel Garfinkle, Dream Job Coaching
The late Sam Walton created his Wal-Mart empire grounded on a strong foundation of friendly service and reduced prices. One important lesson he also learned along the way was to celebrate his achievements no matter how big or how small. For example, at age 71 he vowed to hula dance on Wall Street if his company could tally up a net pretax profit of more than 8%. When Wal-Mart achieved this challenging goal, Walton kept his promise to celebrate by strapping on a grass skirt over his business suit and dancing along side some traditional Hawaiian dancers and musicians on the sidewalk in front of a downtown Manhattan office building.
What do you want to accomplish? Make a list and include goals and gifts you would like to achieve or give yourself (large or small). This is your celebration page to be used throughout your transformation of finding your dream job or turning your current job into more fulfilling work. Here are a few examples to get you started:
- Eating good food
- Pampering yourself with a massage
- Spending quality time with family and friends
- Going to a movie or play
- Taking a vacation of a lifetime
Remember this is not a static document. Once you’ve completed your first draft, refer to it and add to it whenever you gain personal insights or the accomplishments you achieve during the process of learning to love your work more or finding your dream job. Always keep your celebration page close at hand and look at it frequently for further inspiration and validation because above all else you deserve to celebrate you.
