I was not very satisfied with my job. I had been changing positions within my company about every year and a half. I would get to a point and feel like I needed something different. I also really felt like the area I was involved in was not my calling or my dream; it was a way to pay the bills.
When I started in Joel’s group coaching session and started working through the workbook, it really helped to look at my life as a whole. There are many coaches that start with “what is it you want to do?” Joel’s process actually helps you to first get to that answer and then take action to achieve it. If I hadn’t gone through this step of identifying what I really wanted to do, I would have been trying to pursue something that ‘I thought’ was the right career path for me and wonder why I could not stick with it. I realized that when I found the right path for me, I was and am more willing to take the steps to get there; I motivated and excited.
Joel’s coaching did so much for my life and my career. First is that I am not in a position to just quit my job and start something new, especially before I understood what it is that I am called to do. Joel’s workbook and coaching has a great section on how you can make the most of your current job make it ok. During this process, I learned that a lot of times it is not the job that needs to change, it is how I approach the job how I change and see things differently and do things differently. Another area of growth was reaching out to other people to get their ideas on what would match my ‘gems’. It was a very interesting and eye opening experience. It not only gave me some great insight into myself, it also impacted my relationships with some people. It opened up more of me to others and in so doing, created a deeper relationship. Another area of growth that Joel taught is to set goals and timelines and stick with them be accountable. It was really helpful to have a group that was interested in my progress. We made commitments to each other that we would do something and that really helped me to stick with it.
With Joel’s help, I contacted and spoke with 10 different coaches to understand how they became coaches and was able to gain incredible insight into how I can proceed into this profession. I am signed up for classes and will be beginning my journey to become a coach. Without Joel’s help, I would not have pursued this area; I would have continued to try out the psychology route and continued to loose interest. Joel also helped me to learn how to set boundaries at work. I now work at home one day a week and I’m able to be extremely productive and make more of a contribution without jeopardizing my life balance. I would recommend Joel’s coaching to anyone who is in a rut in their job, who is looking for something more, who needs some direction in their life. Joel is an outstanding coach. I feel blessed to have been coached by Joel. He has made a difference in my life!
