Titles - IGNORE Them!!

Real estate agent, lawyer, manager, salesperson - they're all titles. We're a culture obsessed with titles. As soon as we meet someone and learn their name, one of the first questions we ask them is, "What do you do?"

Have you considered how limiting titles are? A title is simply a name attached to a group of activities. For a new perspective, throw away the title, forget the name, and look solely at the activities involved. Dissect your day to day activities at work without focusing on your title and you can find you will gain an appreciation and clarity on what it is you enjoy and how you can do more of it.

For example, if you're in "sales," remove the title and look at what you do. You entertain clients and build relationships. You gain a level of control and freedom as you look at how you can work with each activity to enjoy it and bring more fulfillment to it.

Cultivate the activities that align with you and work on eliminating and reducing those that leave you unsatisfied. Find the freedom that comes from ignoring titles and focusing on activities individually.

Quotes of the week

"Within yourself deliverance must be searched for, because each man makes his own prison."
~ Sir Edwin Arnold

"It is our belief that if people are set free to express themselves to the fullest, their accomplishments will be far beyond their dreams, and they will not only contribute to the growth of the company, but will also be more useful citizens and contribute to the society at large."
~ Wilton M. Blount

"Liberty is being free from the things we don't like in order to be slaves of the things we do like."
~ Ernest Benn

Tip of the Week
Picking a Dream Job Fears

"Your fears and doubts are contributing to your confusion. You're probably scared that if you choose one job, what happens if the other choice is really your dream job. Many people get stuck in this point and are unable to move forward. I've seen a lot of clients who've gone through this process and get to this point. It's very frustrating for you to have two dream jobs that seem very close and not be able to pick the ideal one. If you've gotten this far and have come up with a couple of dream jobs, the one you pick will be so closely aligned to who you are that you'll be making the right decision and will choose the one that will put you in the area you most want to do. You won't be making a wrong decision because of it's alignment to who you are."
